Concert Excitement at Jigsaw Dance Hornsby Wahroonga

It’s getting very exciting for our dancers, with only 5 more sleeps to go until the concert! We can’t wait for them to show you their dances up on the stage and know they will have so much fun… It’s what they’ve been working towards all year!

THIS IS THE LAST WEEK OF TERM FOUR… Our last day for Term 4 is the Saturday 25th November.

This is just one last reminder of all the details for our upcoming concert. Of course, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all.

  • Venue: Asquith Boys High School – Jersey St

Relaxed Concert at North Shore Dance Studio

Concert Fun at Wahroonga Dance Studio

You may notice when you get your first invoice, that there is something called a costume deposit fee on there and you think to yourself ‘I didn’t order a uniform or costume, why am I being charged for this?’

We get asked this question a lot, so we thought we would clear it up by writing a blog post devoted to it.

The costume deposit fee is a payment that is made each term for 4 terms, to pay for the beautiful costume that your dancer gets to wear at our End of Year Concert in November. Now a costume is not the same as the class uniform that your child wears each week. The costumes are supplied from both Australian and overseas companies and are the beautiful, high quality outfits that your dancers get to wear up on the stage (and keep for years after!)

Below are some examples of costumes we have purchased in the past… Aren’t they gorgeous?!

New Dance Class option at Wahroonga on Saturdays

SATURDAY TWINKLE TOES – New class option available for younger students

To all of our (Saturday) Twinkle Toes parents,

It was so exciting to see all of you last Saturday. With a few unexpected arrivals, you would have seen that our Twinkle Toes Ballet & Hip Hop classes were quite full. With this in mind we have decided to create a new class called ‘Teeny Tiny Toes combo’ which is designed specially for 2-3year olds.

Ideally we would like to keep the older students in our Twinkle Toes hip hop and ballet classes (3-5yrs) and invite our younger students (2-3yrs) to join this new and exciting 45 minute combo class which includes jazz, hip hop and ballet. An email has been sent out to some of our already enrolled students, who would be perfect for this class.

The class will run on Saturday mornings 8:45-9:30am. Of course if this doesn’t suit you to change, then that is fine. I just wanted to give all of our families an extra option.

Please let me know which class you would like your child to be apart of. This way, we can keep our numbers at our desired class number, but still allow others to join in and share this beautiful journey…

The timetable will be as follows:

8:45-9:30am Teeny Tiny Toes combo (2-3yrs)

9:30-10:00am Twinkle Toes Hip Hop (3-5yrs)

10:00-10:30am Twinkle Toes Ballet (3-5yrs)

All other classes will remain the same.

This new class will still follow the same amazing programming as our Twinkle Toes but will give our little ones a taster of all genres and allow them to gain confidence in an imaginative environment.

Please let me know what your preferred class will be for this week. You can either call me on 0468994488 or email dance@danceclasseshornsby.com.au

Teaching dance differently at North Shore Dance Studio

The benefits of dance for your child

For years now, it has been proven that when a child enjoys what they are doing and have a positive experience with an activity, their learning is enhanced and they are able to learn at a quicker rate while reaping not only physical benefits, but also a positive mentality through gaining confidence and a positive self worth. As a parent though, it can be difficult to know what activities to put your child into, with so many new options to choose from nowadays and many other deciding factors such as location, schedule and prices. But what if we removed this before school year stress and simply went with an activity that your child wants to do and one  they would really enjoy and have a positive experience, being in. When we start to consider what’s really important to us in a class and how it will positively benefit our child, it becomes clearer.

Dancing classes have always been a popular activity among children, but with new research coming in showing the endless benefits of taking this type of class, it becomes an obvious choice for parents to go with. Aside from improving a child’s fitness and health status, dance bares many other benefits which in turn, contributes to a healthier nation. Not only does it boost a child’s memory but it also improves their retention of information; training the brain and giving it essential skills for later in life. Likewise, increased flexibility drastically improves the range of motion in their joints, which although may not be as necessary at this stage in their lives, proves to be asset as they will eventually form the adult proportion of this country. Increased coordination, balance and strength is an added bonus, which consequently improves a child’s health and wellbeing as a whole.

Many other activities share these health benefits though, so where dance separates itself from the others, is the way in which it enhances the child’s learning through the numerous psychological benefits. Being in a vibrant and fun learning environment that engages with and includes every child, allows a sense of belonging and as such greatly improves their confidence and brings about a positive self-esteem and worth. Not only this, they learn to interact with others and be a part of an inclusiveness community that in term forms life long friendships. These type of benefits, greatly improve a child’s readiness to firstly start school and then later on, improves their ability to deal with different situations, try new things and be an admirable and hard working employee. With such a technological based world right now and the ability for children to grow up too quickly, dance preserves their imagination and forms creative and thoughtful members of the community. When a child is happy in an activity they love, they are generally happier people as a whole.

This is exactly the tact that Miss Tash and the team at Jigsaw Dance Studio like to implement in every aspect of the studio, as we focus on providing a fun, nurturing and non competitive environment for children to learn in. As we introduce our new and exciting program ‘Future Gems’ to the families of Jigsaw Dance in 2017, we will see further growth as children gain confidence, imagination, happiness and friendships within the classroom and learn at a consistent pace. “Every child in our Jigsaw Family is special to us and we believe they should be treated as such. We wanted to create a program that the children would simply love… Each week our dancers are taken on a themed and magical journey as they learn in a fun and creative environment, giving opportunity to develop the ‘whole child’, where confidence, self-esteem and friendships are a key factor.”

Your child can learn to dance in the styles of Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Cheerleading. Classes from 2 years up in the large upper hall of St John’s Uniting Church, Wahroonga. Come along to a class and experience the Jigsaw difference for yourself. We’d love to help you find the perfect class for your child and to get you started on your journey so contact Miss Tash on 0468994488 or dance@danceclasseshornsby.com.au to find out more information. Week 4 (Tuesday & Wednesday Students) Week 5 (Saturday students)

This year we are going to run our Full Dress Rehearsal in class during Term 4. Dancers will need to be in their full costume, hair and makeup for their usual classes during this week. (Note: Saturday students will have their dress rehearsal in Wk 5 rather than wk 4.)

When you get your costumes there will be a note in there with what you need to wear and all the requirements for your dance. The rehearsal will also give me a chance to sort out any costume dramas before the big day and for the dancers to feel comfortable dancing in costume.

Those precious moments as at Dance Teacher

Some may think that being a dance teacher is just about teaching children a genre of dance, maybe giving them some skills in coordination, flexibility and balance and possibly helping with their internal self esteem as well. Yes we may give them those skills but we give them so much more than that, and there’s so much more to why we teach.

We teach for the small joys that happen within the classroom. These are moments that we cherish forever. I’m not just talking in general terms, I’m talking those special moments that we, as the teachers, experience and learn to love. The moment when one of your 2 year students jumps and lifts their feet off the ground for the very first time, after months of waiting.

The moments when a child comes running into the classroom and embraces you into a huge hug and does the same numerous times when they leave at the end of class. The moments when your children come into class and tell you all about their day at big school and how exciting it was. The moment when a child who could not separate from her mummy for months, tells her she can leave for the first time and has a huge smile on her face. The moments when they finally master a step they have been practicing at home for weeks and feel so proud. The moment when they suddenly understand what I’ve been explaining like a light bulb switching on. The moment when they come up with a clever way to remember a step and they let me teach it to others like that, forever after. And finally the moments when a once shy kid comes racing into class, confident as ever with a smile gleaming on their face. When they tell you that they remember you teaching them when they were only a tiny tot. When their parents thank you for the way in which you have improved their self-confidence and self belief.

That is why we teach. For these precious moments in class that can never be forgotten.
